Fall is fast approaching. Always check the weather forecast and dress for cooler temperatures when boating around Long Island in September.
Watch the Weather
-
September brings sudden early fall cold fronts, squalls, and tropical storm remnants that change conditions fast.
-
Carry a VHF marine radio tuned to Channel 16 and a backup device that works when wet.
-
Dress for changing air & water temperatures. Air temps may be warmer mid-day but quickly cools towards afternoon approaches. Remember the water cools down quickly.
-
Always wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life vest to reduce the risk of hypothermia and drowning in an emergency.
-
Check our site and find a Fall boating class near you. Virtual classes are offered through the winter. A good time to sign up.
